Abstract
The patient was Japanese woman who was diagnosed as ulcerative colitis (UC) at 37 years old and underwent total colectomy a year after because of unsuccessful pharmacotherapies for UC. At 15 years after colectomy, she developed liver dysfunction secondary to type 1 autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), which responded to corticosteroids and went into remission without relapse for 10 years. Although cases of AIH or AIH/ primary sclerosing cholangitis overlap syndrome with concomitant UC have been sporadically reported, cases in which the onset of AIH was after colectomy for UC were estimated to be rare.
