The use of groundwater in coastal areas may have adverse effects on fresh water aquifers. Over time, this may create serious environmental problems, particularly for wetlands, which are important for the preservation of biological diversity. This study examines water quality at Goksu Delta, which is a major agricultural and wetland area in Turkey and has national and international significance. With this objective, samples were collected from 24 separate groundwater wells between May 2012 and April 2013, and physical and chemical water quality parameters were examined. Water quality maps of the study area were created using the Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Concentrations of the elements Ba, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, B and Si were found to be, 0.38, 0.08, 0.05, 0.01, 0.06, 0.81 and 2.55 µg/L, respectively. Values for anionic ions SO42-, Cl- and NO3-, and cationic ions Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+ and TDS were found to be 195.97, 284.22, 12.49, 62.44, 39.53, 194.75, 9.42, and 808.88 mg/L, respectively. It was found that agricultural pollution, as well as saltwater intrusion, were responsible for changes in the region’s water quality. Increasing levels of salinity, due to agricultural water consumption and saltwater intrusion, threaten water quality in this precious delta.
This paper shows the development and parallelization of a direct numerical simulation method used to study the behavior of a wind system working at a variable wind speed. In this sense, the authors have been proposed a serialization method that carries out this study sequentially on the available hardware resources. In order to reduce the time required to achieve this study by using the serial solving method, the authors have been implemented an explicit parallelization method, which is based on data parallelism, by using a quad-parallel structure. In order to use the data parallelism method to speeding up an initial-value problem, the authors have been proposed a data-distribution scheme used to distribute a large data set on a quad-parallel structure. This data-distribution scheme has been tested in case of two single program-multiple data structures that parallelize the 4th order Runge-Kutta algorithm on a shared-memory multicores system for the solution of systems of ordinary differential equations that compose the specified initial value problem. Also, the authors have been proposed a data-flow chart for the proposed data-distribution scheme, which has been used to analyze the data flow on a quad-parallel structure.
Several engineering phenomena require the understanding of MHD flows and thermal effects related to complex flows. For instance, example is metallurgy, crystal growth and aerospace engineering problems. The present work is an effort towards numerical investigation of such flows. We examine the steady three-dimensional flow over a semi infinite permeable surface. The surface is embedded in a porous medium. The mathematical model derived from the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and Maxwell’s equation comprises of nonlinear ODEs subject to boundary conditions. The nonlinearity poses a major challenge for the solution of model. Numerical simulations are carried out for the proposed MHD flow for different values of important parameters. The study presents analysis of the quantities like velocities, temperature and stream function. Hence the flow behavior is investigated in context of hard physical conditions. Results are shown graphically to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of applied algorithm.
Breast cancer transpires as one of the leading cause of deathly diseases among women worldwide. Nevertheless, there is evidence that early detection and treatment can increase the survival rate of breast cancer patients. This paper presents an Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS) for breast cancer diagnosis by using gene expression profiles. The proposed system first extracts significant features from the input patterns by using Information Gain (IG) and then employs Deep Genetic Algorithm (DGA) for feature reduction as well as for breast cancer diagnosis. The proposed system is evaluated by considering a benchmark microarray dataset and compared with the most recent systems. The results show that the proposed IDSS outperforms other systems in terms of diagnosis time and accuracy. The proposed system produces 100% classification accuracy. In addition, the proposed system reduces the required memory space
For a high resolution protein crystal structure, the backbone torsion angles phi,psi of a vast majority of nonglycine residues lay within the peculiar insulated regions of the (phi, psi) space with negative and positive values of angle phi, assigned by the popular protein structure validation tools for the allowed conformations of nonglycine residues. Residues from the disallowed region are considered as outliers. Our computations of the conformational energy map of a number of peptide systems established that for nonglycine residues the lowest energy conformation with positive phi is less favorable than that with negative phi and the transition energy between these conformations is quite noticeably. On this basis it is proposed that in proteins nonglycine residues would unlikely have a conformation with positive phi. Such residues are considered as outliers and should be reinvestigated thoroughly. To test the deduction, the Ramachandran plots of a large set of the high resolution protein structures are analyzed. The finding may be expected to be important in elucidating the folding problem and structure organization of proteins. It may be used as a simple means for disclosure and remediation of local inaccuracies in protein structure and also may be employed for protein structure determination.

It is found that the modern age gives rise to the innovative and decisive form of individualism at the core of which there stood the innovative conception of identity in the modern world. The transformation that conducted in modernity tore the individuals free from its stable moorings in the traditions and structures and individuals’ status, rank and position in the great chain of being the secular and divine order of the things. In 1979, Doris Lessing paved the way towards a new world with the publication of the novel \"Shikasta\", the first in a series of Canopus, and the first written entirely under a new genus. If we accept that science - fiction involves forecasting, assumption, then where does the connection between imaginary worlds and the real world lie? What is the best way to give voice and express the relationship between the familiar and the unknown? Does science - fiction gives the story a different voice? If yes, then how does Doris Lessing manage to produce a totally new voice with the Canopus series? It is the aim of this paper to make an introduction of the last three novels in the series so as to show that Lessing’s greatness remains stable even in totally inexperienced new territories.
The information spreads rapidly on the internet, electronic WOM and its application for virtual marketing have become an important issue for marketers as an integral part of the value the firm. In this paper, the author proposes a stochastic model of infection effect based on considering the numbers of WOM and its spread rate. The empirical data is collected to validate the proposed model and estimate its parameters. The results find that the sales and infection effect are significant high correlated. This proposed model can provide managers to estimate the sales or profit by calculating the cumulative numbers of infective people.
In this paper the author introduces the concept of lambda-levelwise statistical cluster and limit points of a sequence of fuzzy numbers. The ideas are extended by discussing the relationship between the sets of lambda-levelwise statistical cluster points and lambda-levelwise statistical limit points of sequences of fuzzy numbers.
Aluminum (Al) has been proposed as an environmental factor that may contribute to some neurodegenerative diseases, and affects several enzymes and other biomolecules relevant to Alzheimer‘s disease. The present study was designed to examine the protective potential of Goji berries (Lycium barbarum) in alleviating the toxicity of aluminum chloride (AlCl3) induced Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in rats. Adult male albino rats were randomly assigned into four study groups (seven rats each). Group1: Normal control; group 2 was administrated orally water extract of L. barbarum 100 mg/kg body weight/day for 6 weeks; group 3 was administrated aluminum chloride (50 mg/kg body weight) dissolved in normal drinking water for 6 weeks and group 4 was received L. barbarum and AlCl3 simultaneously in the same manner as with groups 2 and 3. The results revealed significant elevation in the levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), nitric oxide (NO) and the protein carbonyl content (PCC), concomitant with a significant decrease in superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) activity and glutathione (GSH) content in the brain of AlCl3-treated rats. Additionally, brain alkaline phosphatase (ALP), acid phosphatase (ACP) lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities were also elevated significantly due to AlCl3 intoxication. The administration of Lycium barbarum to rats along with AlCl3 resulted in a pronounced modulation in all previous mentioned parameters, suggesting its role as a neuroprotective protective agent. The present study suggests that Lycium barbarum may play a beneficial role in delaying the progression of AD.
Fuzzy C-means clustering is a soft technique and has some advantages in ecological studies. Glycyrrhiza uralensis is an endangered medicinal plant species and mainly distributed in North China. Species data of 100 plots of 5 m x 5 m from semi-arid and arid regions in North China were analyzed by fuzzy C-means clustering. A hundred plots were classified into 12 vegetation formations by fuzzy C-means clustering. These formations were main communities dominated by Glycyrrhiza uralensis in North China. Each formation has its own composition, structure, distribution range and environment, and all of them should be protected effectively. The results suggest that fuzzy C-means clustering is an useful technique for classification of plant community.
Aim: To determine the role of mean platelet volume in diagnosis of complicated and uncomplicated acute appendicitis among children admitted to the hospital with right lower quadrant pain. \nMethods: One hundred and twelve healthy children and 336 consecutive patients whom were admitted to the hospital because of right lower quadrant abdominal pain were included in this retrospective study. The patients were grouped as healthy children (Group 1), acute uncomplicated appendicitis (Group 2), acute complicated appendicitis (Group 3) and right lower quadrant abdominal pain-other than appendicitis (Group 4) groups. \nResults: For the MPV levels, a significant difference was observed when all groups were compared (p<0.05). In the between-groups comparisons, a significant difference was only determined between Groups 1 and 2 and also between Groups 1 and 4 (p<0.05); but not between other groups. For the WBC levels, a comparison of all the groups revealed a significant difference (p<0.05). In the between-groups comparisons, a statistically significant difference was observed between all groups except between Groups 2 and 3 (p=.812). Conclusions: it was shown in our study that MPV aids neither in the differential diagnosis of right lower quadrant pain cases nor in the discrimination of pediatric acute complicated and uncomplicated appendicitis cases.

Abstract\nIn Algeria, the conventional tillage (CT) based on ploughing with mouldboard plough or with disc plough often intervening, after the first autumn rains, remains the common practice of farmers. Simplified cultivation methods or minimum tillage (MT) where chisel replaces plough and, the direct- seeding (DS) practised with help of a specialized seeder, are still in experimental phase. In this study performed, during 4 consecutive years from 2008 to 2012, in experimental station of National Advanced School of Agronomy (ENSA ex INA, Algiers), the three techniques are compared in a randomized complete block design with three replications at each year from 2008 to 2012 in a deep clayey-loamy soil. The basic plots measure 100 m in length and 6 m in width. Barley crop (Hordeum vulgare L., Rihane variety) was selected to compare three systems, soil porosity, barley grain yield and its components are studied. The results show that the soil porosity, plant height, grain number per ear and grain yield are higher in CT than in the two other systems (DS and MT).\n\nKeys words: barley, conventional tillage, minimum tillage, direct seeding.
Influenza is a public health topic that has received attention worldwide and induces complications that cause infants and young children to frequently use medical services, substantially increasing their emergency room, inpatient, and outpatient visits. Influenza vaccination is currently acknowledged worldwide as the most effective method for preventing influenza and effectively decreasing associated complications and patient death. Therefore, this study primarily adopted the theory of planned behavior and health belief model to investigate relevant factors affecting the vaccination behavior of parents with 3–6 years old children. The research participants were recruited from parents in Yunlin County whose children were aged 3–6 years and had received influenza vaccination. A self-report questionnaire was administered to conduct the survey. In total, 1600 questionnaires were distributed, and 1379 valid samples were returned. The overall return rate was 86.2%. The data were subsequently analyzed through structural equation modeling. The research results revealed that the severity and benefit factors exerted a significantly positive influence on vaccination intention; by contrast, infection did not significantly influence vaccination intention. The results of this study can serve as a reference for associated units such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, health centers, and hospitals in advocating and executing vaccination.
subalpine zone of Lankaran highlands at lawny mountain-meadow soils at the height of 1800 m to 2500 m above sea level. During the carried out ecological-geobotanical researches, it has been determined 7 formation classes, 12 formation groups and 20 associations. In parallel with the study of type composition and structure of phytocenosis found in the area of investigation, it has been also determined endemic species, productivity of formations, and intensification of degradation at soil-plant coverage of some lawny subalpine meadows, decrease in abundance and productivity of forage crop.\n Currently, for the purpose of the improvement of natural phytocenosis productivity, crop quality, protection of their genetic reserve and landscapes, as well as the vegetation study for solution of protection problems on the base of scientific means is of a great importance.
In this study, dry and lubricated tests under variable velocity and moderate normal forces at room temperature are carried out to define an experimental procedure to quantify well the wear of a stainless steel rubbing against X200Cr13 steel. Under dry conditions, severe wear occurs whereas with lubricant mild wear regime is observed. In all cases we can summarize that the mechanisms which control this wear is an abrasion accompanied by a low rate plastic deformation (creep). For the highest normal force and sliding velocity, we measured a maximum heating of 100°C which certainly promotes the plastic deformation of the stainless steel.
The increasing frequency of outbreaks of the highly pathogenic influenza viruses (HPIAVs) among poultry and continued circulation of this strain increases the opportunity to develop influenza pandemic. Therefore, at this study, optimization of real time PCR protocol as well as sensitivity analysis of the developed protocol has been carried out. Moreover, isolation of the full length antigenic genes haemaglutinin (HA) Neuraminidase (NA), Nucleoprotein (NP) and Matrix1 (M1) genes have been carried out in order to study the evolution of the local H5N1 strains. In order to achieve these objectives oligonucleotide primers specific to the Egyptian strains have been designed based on bioinformatics analysis. The results of both in silico and in vitro analysis of the developed real time PCR protocol showed that the recommended protocol is efficient against tested local H5N1 strains. In addition, isolation of the four antigenic full length genes HA, NA, NP and M1 genes have been successfully carried out via PCR. Finally, bioinformatics analysis of the generated sequences has been performed and the restriction recognition sequences of the amplified full length antigenic genes have been partially identified as a prerequisite step for further cloning experiments.
Purpose. To develop a dynamic holistic predictive model to generate future scenarios of the ischemic heart disease. Methodology: Nine indicators were analyzed at municipality level by methods of main component, structural equation modeling, dynamic modeling and simulation software. Results: Two components were extracted that explain the 69.48 of the total variance, the Population component weighs 1.28 units over the ischemic disease and the Morbidity component weighs 0.09. Scenarios were estimated from the incidents rate of the ischemic heart disease for the years 2015, 2020, 2025 and 2030 of 240.5, 368.6, 552.8 and 805.1 for every 100,000 habitants; for diabetes mellitus type 2 of 1,277.1, 1,553.8, 1,890.4 y 2,300.0; for high blood pressure of 1,753.0, 2112.4, 2,545.5 and 3,067.3 respectively. Conclusion: A probable exponential increase is expected in the ischemic heart disease, in diabetes mellitus type 2 and high blood pressure\nKey Words: Ischemic Disease; Risk Factors; Dynamic Models; Predictive.
The holistic development of human society, including economic aspects, is subjected to wave motions, under the form of Economic Cycles. The dynamism of capitalist (open) economy is marked by cyclical swings in the multidimensional activity.\nWe try to underline the importance of the Economic Cycles in current life and to propose and sustain the tri-phases cycles of development, as being the most suitable model for nowadays. Why? Because the decenial cycle overlaps the movements of the business institutions such as money, interest, credit, investments, in one word the true business cycle. The expansion of the credit is the propeller and the prevention of its release represnts the mean the avoidance of the Business Cycles, those which shatter the current world.\nAt the same time, studying the Business Cycles, we’ve tried to sustain the most appropriate expression for these inherent ondulations of the economy and society and to highlight the model of Economic Cycles the most pliable of what is happening in the real economy of today.\nThe cycles can not be avoided, wether there are due to the activities of a determined economic and social system, if there are influenced by structural and circulating financial institutions (already mentioned).
Objective: The study was designed to assess balance, walking, physical performance and quality of life in lumbar disc herniation (LDH) patients with chronic low back pain. \n\nMaterial And Methods: The study included 63 cases, 32 of whom were diagnosed with LDH and 31 of whom were healthy controls. The time-up and go test was used to compare the physical performance, the Tinetti balance and gait test was used to compare balance and gait functions and the SF-36 index was used to compare the quality of life of the patients. \n\nResults: Although the healthy group was only expected to complete the time-up and go test earlier than the case group (p<0.05), their Tinetti balance test parameters were also found to be better (p<0.05). When the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale sub-parameters of the case and healthy control groups were compared, significant differences were determined in all parameters except for mental health (p<0.05).\n\nConclusion: In LDH patients with chronic low back pain, increases in pain and decreases in balance, walking, and physical performances affect activities of daily living and quality of life negatively. Therefore, when physiotherapy programs are planned, the evaluation of functional status and quality of life parameters are of importance.\nKey Words: Chronic low back pain, Lumbar Disc Herniation, SF-36 quality of life scale, functional status
The paper presents the results of the research concerning the possibility of using flax and hemp waste products in low-energy building construction. These materials can be used as fillers of the lime-based binder composites. Binder, in the shape of the hydrated lime and additions such as Portland cement and clay, were used in the study. The composites were tested in terms of their basic physical and mechanical properties such as density, porosity, absorptivity, thermal conductivity, flexural and compressive strength. The impact of different quantities of flax and hemp filler on particular characteristics of the composite was determined. In order to assess the composite suitability to meet the thermal requirements made for low-energy buildings, the seasonal energy demand ratio for heating a model house with partitions made of the selected composite was calculated. The results were compared to those obtained for a house built of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). The results proved that the material is characterised by low density, low thermal conductivity, high absorptivity and low strength. These properties allow the composite use as timber frame filling without any additional thermal insulation. It is possible to comply with the requirements made for low-energy buildings and to obtain better results compared to those using cellular concrete.
School children aged 13-18 need to eat balanced nutritious diet which provides calories, energy and nutrients for proper growth, in order to repair and maintenance the body tissues and preventing undesired diseases and infection. Serving healthier meals is a major step towards achieving that objective. However, planning a nutritious and balance menu manually is complicated, inefficient and time-consuming. This study aims to develop a mathematical model for diet planning that optimizes and meets the necessary nutrient intake for school children aged 13-18 as well as minimizing the budget. It also gives the flexibility for the caterer to change any preferred menu even after the optimal solution has been obtained. A recalculation process will be performed based on the optimal solution. The data was collected from the Ministry of Education and boarding schools. Menu planning is a well-known optimization problem. The model was solved by using Zero-One Programming and “Delete-Reshuffle-Reoptimize Algorithm (DRRA)”.
Purpose: The incorporation babassu extract microemulsion as well as its effect on cell activity have not been studied. Methods: The aim of this study was to characterize a microemulsion (ME) incorporated with Orbignya martiana Rodr (babassu) extract and verify the effect of this microemulsion on the functional activity of phagocytes. MEs s were prepared using Sorbitan monooleate, Polysorbate 80, 1-butanol, distilled water and babassu oil and formulations were pre-selected for babassu incorporation. The MEs were characterized by stability studies, physical-chemical, rheology and dynamic light scattering. Functional activity of phagocytes also was evaluated in the presence of ME. Results: It was observed that the stability of ME was maintained in five formulations, two had conductivity between 9.79 and 28.7 ?S•cm-1 and pH of approximately 7.0. Only the microemulsion babassu number 2 (2MBE) showed minimal variation in viscosity. This formulation showed a hydrodynamic diameter of 79.88 nm and zeta potential of -30.90 mV. The cell viability in presence of 2MBE was 90%. The functional activity of phagocytes increase in the presence of the 2MBE. Conclusions: The results indicate that the microemulsion of babassu extract is capable of modulating the functional activity of phagocytes and may be a promising herbal agent.
Abstract\nThe effects of the antioxidant, vitamin E ( - tocopherol), on oxidative stress was determined in alloxan induced-diabetic rabbits. Three groups of animals (rabbits) namely:\n(A) Non diabetic group (ND), (B) Diabetic not treated group (DNT) and (C) Diabetic treated group (DT) were used. Glucose, malondialdehvde (MDA), vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and vitamin E levels were analysed in three phases o five-day intervals as vitamin E was being supplemented. Thus, the parameters were determined at day 5, 10 and 1.5 of diabetic life and vitamin E supplementation. The results, obtained in groups A, B, and C showed glucose levels of 6.78 0.19, 18.34 1.01, 11.67 164 mmol/L. In groups A, 13 and C the results of IVIDA levels were 2.68 0,05, 6.79 0 26 and 4.51 0.56, mmol MDA/ml respectively. Vitamin C concentrations showed values of 0.74 0.02; 0.42 0.04; 0.58 0.07 mg/00ml while the vitamin E levels were 5.60 0.06; 2.27 022, 4.96 0.25mg/L. for groups A, B and C respectively. The result revealed that lipid peroxidation product (MBA); and blood glucose increased significantly (P.< 0.01), while vitamin C and E decreased significantly in group B. Supplementation with vitamin E brought about a decrease in blood glucose and MDA levels, but caused a ‘significant (P< 0.05) increase in vitamins C and E levels in group C. This revealed that MBA correlated positively with glucose (r = 0.717) while vitamins C and E correlated negatively with both glucose (r = - 0:297, -0.327) and MDA (r -0.424, -0.722). This trend showed that vitamin E reversed the profile of the parameters assayed. Hence vitamin E and, most probably, other antioxidant vitamins may be of benefit in diabetic conditions and diabetic complications.\nKey Words: Diabetes Mellitus, Rabbits, Vitamin E, Anti-oxidants, Free Radicals
Introduction: Filamentous fungi are considered an important group in various areas such as health, industry, food and agriculture due to the variety of secondary metabolites and production of recombinant proteins that can be obtained with commercial purposes. Owing to the enzymatic potential they have encoded in its genome it is fundamental to design and generate molecular tools, such as expression vectors that allow studying the function of genes.\nObjective of review: The aim of this review is to provide an overview the basic elements (promoter, terminator, selectable genetic marker and tags to generate marked proteins) and genetic tool that should be considered in the generation of expression vectors.\nDiscussion: The article has compiled advances on the basic elements that expression vectors should include. The genes and species of filamentous fungi are included, as well as information in which these elements have already been used. Finally, this review describe a PCR-based fusión technique employed in construction to vectors.\nConclusion: The design to expression vectors in filamentous fungi has been described, with several examples now summarized within this work. Future studies must be directed to construct a wide variety of expression vectors, which can provide a better understanding of molecular mechanisms of gene regulation in filamentous fungi.\nKeywords: Constitutive expression; Dominant markers; Inducer; Regulation; Repressor
The extensive development of smart mobile technologies has rendered smartphones a major component of our daily life activities. The case hospital developed a mobile registration app that provides services, such as registration, waiting number checking, and real-time parking space information, to improve the public’s access to medical services. Using these patient-oriented services as the starting point, the hospital continues to provide various value-added mobile services to create a mobile medical environment that addresses patient concerns and satisfies their needs anytime. This research was conducted to investigate the factors influencing the adoption of App systems by hospital staff. Specifically, an information system success model (i.e., information quality, system quality, and user satisfaction), computer self-efficacy, and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (i.e., performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, and use intention) were incorporated into a theoretical model that explains and predicts the use intentions of users operating an App system. Data were obtained from hard copy survey responses to self-report questionnaires administered to staff members of a hospital in Taoyuan, Taiwan. We distributed 900 questionnaires, of which 825 were returned. After invalid responses were removed, 707 questionnaires remained, yielding an effective retrieval rate of 85.7%. Descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling revealed that information quality and system quality positively affected user satisfaction; user satisfaction, performance expectancy, and facilitating conditions positively influenced use intention; and social influence negatively affected use intention. The path coefficients of effort expectancy and computer self-efficacy on use intention were non-significant (p > 0.05). This study contributes to the current understanding of the application of information and App systems in hospitals by investigating multiple variables. The findings are expected to assist hospitals in deciding which information technology to invest in when implementing a new App system.
Wind erosion is effective on 500 million ha of land in arid and semi-arid regions where annual precipitation is less than 500 mm such as Aralik-Igdir, Turkey; whereas, both naturally and artificially radionuclides are almost spread over the whole earth. Humankind inevitably encountered radionuclides in July, 1945 when nuclear era started by tentatively making burst a blast in New Mexico, USA. Creep, saltation, and suspension are three different effects of wind erosion on soils. Quite small particles (<100 µm) are transported over a great distance and kept aloft for a long time. Radionuclides are also moved and carried away as soil-bonded ones and radioactive aerosols due to wind erosion caused by strong winds. This fact is evaluated as different by each science. Some radionuclide movements are an important method for exploring soil redistribution by wind due to their strongly adsorbing to soil particles. Although 137Cs is the most commonly preferred anthropogenic radioisotope used to assess soil redistribution rates, 239+240Pu has been recently started to be used as a tracer. I want to emphasize that wind erosion area of Aralik-Igdir, Turkey is waiting to be explored.
